For most wine drinkers, a simple, sturdy, no-frills style like the Le Chateau Wine Decanter should do the job perfectly. We also love the extremely practical BTäT Decanter because it comes with everything you need if you don’t already own accessories for cleaning and storage. It also arrives with a mat to place it on to avoid any damage to your surfaces – and it also looks pretty. The decanter measures 6.5 inches at its widest diameter, can hold up to 44 ounces, and the angled spout allows for drip-free pouring. With sustainability in mind, this is made from 100 percent lead-free, recycled glass. It comes with a 60-day guarantee in case of breakage.

More often than not, when we see a decanted wine, it’s red, not white. And for good reason. Red wines more often have sediment (which you’d want to decant out) and many, so-called “tighter” red wines can benefit hugely from “opening up,” i.e. getting some exposure to oxygen for varying amounts of time to let the aromatics have a chance to peek out. (Oxygen, however, does eventually become the enemy of wine, and aromatics can float away, so decant, and drink!) Red wines typically respond best to decanting, whether they're medium-bodied or lighter-bodied; the latter does well in a decanter that's been chilled.) If you're a drinker of white or rosé, you don't need to decant. And experts disagree about whether older wines need to be decanted, so if you have an older bottle and aren't sure, call your local trusted wine shop and ask. If you wanted to use a decanter to catch the sediments in your wine as well as aerating it, you can place this over the top of your decanter and pour into that, rather than pouring it into your glass. Make sure your decanter is clean and dry before storing it. Decanters can be quite fragile, so store yours in a place where it cannot be accidentally disturbed—especially if you have children or pets in your home. An enclosed cabinet is ideal, with the added bonus of preventing your decanter from gathering dust. Make sure it’s easy for you to reach to avoid accidents when taking it out or putting it away. Store your decanter in a room with a consistent and moderate temperature, as glassware can break when exposed to dramatic shifts from hot to cold and vice versa. White wines can be decanted, and it won’t hurt the wine. It's more common to decant the heavier whites like your California chardonnays or Rhone Valley white blends. They just don’t need to be decanted as long as reds, 20 to 40 minutes should do just fine.Siobhan Wallace has written about food and wine for over a decade and passed the WSET Level 3, Wines, with Merit. While learning how long to properly decant a bottle of wine was hard, learning how to properly clean the decanter was harder. Once the wine has been tasted, you can use your preferred cleaning method: There are the cleaning beads, which are placed in the base with a gentle cleanser, or the cleaning brush for sweeping around the base. The final drip dry is much easier with the included drying stand, which can also be used for safely storing the decanter. Grapefruit and sweet vanilla aromas. Rich, fat and textured in the mouth, with bright, balanced acidity and a lingering, delightful finish. A great wine for those who like big, toasty, oaked whites. Alc 14% Ca N’Estella, Gran Clot dels Oms Chardonnay, Penedès 2017 A wine decanter allows the wine to obtain more oxygen to release more flavors and aromas. Normally, you can just swirl the wine in your glass to do this, but some "bigger" wines need more time and more air. So, you pour the wine in a decanter.

When you open a bottle of wine, oxygen mixes with air and starts oxidation. Too much oxidation ruins any wine. No one likes ruined wine. eto’s unique preservation system creates a seal between the wine and the air, reducing the wine’s exposure to oxygen, slowing down the oxidation process and keeping its great taste for longer.

The decanter looks good too, and the crystalline glass reflects light as it shines through and creates stunning rainbows around your room – so it would work well as a centerpiece even when empty! Pros:

Place your hand over the top of the decanter and shake well. You should start to see the solution changing colour and therefore the stains lifting. Depending on how tough the stains are you may need to repeat this step.

You can decant wines anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours. It definitely depends on the wine. It’s okay to taste it after 30 minutes and see how it’s developed, then leave it in for longer if necessary. Day 2: We took eto and the opened bottle of wine out of the fridge and poured a glass of each. There wasn’t a huge difference between the two but the eto wine had had the chance to breath by being decanted and therefore pipped the non-eto wine to the post. To speed up the process, the magnetic base creates a vortex for maximum oxygenation inside the lead-free crystal decanter, which is made by Spiegelau. After placing the filled decanter on the base, you set the timer and speed of decanting. vSpin went through the research of optimal time for major red wine varieties, but you can experiment with times and speeds. This is the method I used because I had everything on hand and found that the vinegar worked best at breaking down those stubborn stains. Aged red wine is prone to sediment, and although this isn’t harmful, it certainly isn’t nice to look at and can give your wine a gritty mouthfeel.
