About this deal

All the words, no matter how pretty, no matter how clever, if they don’t come from the heart, they mean nothing.

Hanging out with her best friend Trina and trying to persuade geeky Heath that she doesn’t fancy him. I certainly couldn’t predict how the story would eventually play out, anyway, and it constantly took me by surprise, so this was such a great reading experience for me overall. I was totally gripped throughout the reading wondering why main character and successful author Cleo was dismantling her. This was a totally engrossing tale of past crimes and control, and tension and suspense are in plentiful supply. I was absolutely delighted to learn that Dorothy Koomson, one of my top ten, or quite possibly even my top five favourite authors had written a new novel. The term slow-burn was made for this novel as it builds exquisite layer upon layer into the most compelling reading experience. A unusual and thrilling tale of long kept secrets and dangerous obsession, combined with a cast of very strong characters. A clever and multi-layered dark thriller, My Other Husband is a gripping read that left me gasping in shock more than once. I wasn't expecting to get so emotionally involved with the characters, and i have to admit that the last chapter (before the epilogue) literally had me in tears. We know that Cleo is choosing to implode her own life, which seems to be going well, and we find out why through chapters dispersed throughout the current timeline that provide us the background that leads to her current situation.

This book was definitely a slow burn for me but when it got going with the twists and turns it really was an attention grabber and kept you hooked right until the end.I didn’t know what to expect from this book, I really had no clue what would happen and how it would end.

Things really start to fall apart, though, when someone tries to frame her murder – in the same ways as the crimes she makes up.

What it lacks in originality is partially made up for with very likable characters and quality acting. DOROTHY KOOMSON is an award-winning, internationally bestselling author and journalist whose books have been translated into more than 30 languages, with sales that exceed 2 million copies in the UK alone. I absolutely love in books when an author takes a fact, such as this and uses it, expands it and builds a very intriguing interesting character such as this. Writing is all she's ever wanted to do, and baking and murder stories have proved a winning combination.

Calendar arrived safely in plastic-free packaging - which I've not seen before with a calendar, so kudos for that. Read more about the condition Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition. None of the characters were likeable, the story took an age to get going, and the ending was both unbelievable (not in a good way) and disappointing. However, as she drafts her final ever episode her life turns upside down and people she knows start getting hurt and it soon becomes clear that someone is trying to frame her for murder and she thinks she knows why. I was really excited about what I thought was being built up to, but it ended up going off on a completely different tangent to the one I was expecting.I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I could not see where the story was going and I like that from a book. They absorbed the nonsense and made me not mind as much if they went off on random tangents that were nothing to do with me. Finding Dorothy is akin, for me, to having been introduced to Lucinda Riley, I enjoyed My other husband that much. This was so close to being a five-star read for me but the only thing that made me drop half a star was because of how the story ended.
