There is romance in this book, of course, and it's a delicious mix of sweet moments, dirty talk, smut, and also serious conversations, and some clashing between Auren and Slade. On a little side note, while I have nothing against dirty talk in books, I struggled to get on board with it a few times during this book... I can't really explain why, because I don't mind graphic details or very spicy smut, but the dirty talk kinda clashed with the intense moments at times... I was pretty late to the party and started reading the Plated Prisoner Series only a few days prior to the release of Glow, so I was able to binge through them all, ending the journey with Glow itself. And I will end my journey with Glow even though there might be more to come. This is not going to be a "OMG SO GOOD!!" review but in-depth discussion on why this book should never have been published in this form, at all. I'll provide a short review first and then dive into it later, so only read that second part if you don't care about spoilers.

I could not wait for the release of this book and had been counting down the days until I could immerse myself in this world again. Unfortunately, this instalment simply did not deliver. There's something there in his voice. A caress that smoothed over its harsh edges and slid over my skin. It scares me, even as it draws me in. I promise myself right then and there, that from now on, that’s what I’ll do. I will always trust him, in all things, because he knows what’s best. He’s always right. We get 3 chapters for Queen Malina whose entire plotline seems to be the most important one going into Gold. 3 plus the epilogue showing what I stated in the previous sentence. She's the one building the road for an entire book and she gets 4 chapters out of 66 (if we include the epilogue), that equals 6% for someone who was the most relevant for the plot going out of Glow? Wow. But - it gets worse.Author Kennedy has also partnered with Coralee June on multiple occasions to write the installments of several of her original series. She is often praised for having the expertise to write excellent stories in a variety of genres. Her books will either make the readers cry or laugh and it gives her immense pleasure to create characters and worlds that readers can root for. Ultimately, the reason I decided to read this series was because I seen it labelled as fantasy with heavy romantic elements and its constant comparison to ACOTAR. Both Gild and Glint have almost no romantic elements. The enemies-to-lovers slow burn is nowhere to be found in Glint. You could argue there is one moment, but it’s so far out of left field making it more weird than exciting. There is no tension or connection between Auren and the love interest. Leading the army is Commander Rip, a notorious warrior whose name is whispered in taverns and street corners all over the six kingdoms. In it, you are still following Auren who is the gold plated whore (according to everyone who doesn't know shit about her) and the favored by King Midas. While on this journey with her new kidnappers, she learns a bunch about herself and the other saddles. First off, I hate the saddles because of how they treated Auren throughout these two books. They know absolutely nothing about her and judge her constantly. So, yeah, I felt bad for her and I wanted them all to be turned to gold and die.

With the right person, there is power when you kneel. There is adoration with submission. There is balance with control. You can say something until you’re blue in the face, and it won’t do any good. People rarely change their opinions when they’re argued with. They only tend to listen to the voices of those they already agree with.” To conclude my review, the first book ended with an exciting cliffhanger and I knew and I was right! The second book gave much more and I'm glad I decided to read this trilogy. I think the third book is coming out next month if I'm not wrong and I CANNOT wait because Book 2 ended with yet another great cliffhanger. I can’t wait to see the rest of you. When you let it go, when you finally let that out, your fury is going to light up the spirit you’ve shadowed.” He looks like someone who’s won, boasting in superiority. “I hope you burn so bright that you scorch your Golden King down to ash.”

You’re mine, Auren. As wholly as I am yours. If there’s something you crave, if there’s some freedom you want to try the taste of, then you will do it, and I will be right there with you. Watching you devour your wants. And then I will devour you.” If you're interested in more in-depth commentary with quotations and examples, read on. If you still plan to read this book and don't want to be spoilered do not read on. Please read those numbers again and tell me, those povs were relevant to the story. They were not. 37 for Auren is okay, don't mind that at all, she's the female main character we've been following around for four books now. 19 for Slade were way too many in my opinion, especially because the major part of those were in the first 30% of the book and you could have reduced them to a fourth of that, without losing much (or anything at all), and most of those later ones focus on his spice-appearances while the first few were blown up so much. Kennedy also likes to go on long walks with someone on the beach. Many a time, Kennedy takes up hiking with the hope of making it exciting. However, she ends up turning the journey into a boring one every time as she spends all day sitting with her computer and writing her heart out. Every female character is the exact same weak, helpless, whiny petite figure who hates a specific male but can’t do anything unless a new male helps her do it.

I said in my review of the first book that there was room for great development in Auren’s character, and we can already see it happen in this second book. The pace is slower, and while Auren and the Fourth’s army are traveling, most of the book happens in the same place, allowing the author to really focus on the character growth in this sequel. He’s sinister and powerful and entirely too seductive. I’ve learned my lesson with trusting manipulative kings, so why does my chest constrict every time he’s near? I need to tread carefully, or I’m at risk of losing much more than just my freedom. For so long, I’ve swallowed my own tongue. I’ve tamped down every emotion, careful to ride every tide in the hopes that I don’t become submerged.

And now, when she sits down to write a story, things often get too emotional. So, Kennedy feels the need to work on something light-hearted. This way, she has managed to maintain the balance in her work all along. When she’s not reading or writing, she’s with her family, probably messing up a recipe or going on a hike that she thinks she can do, but in reality she can't because she remembers that all she does is sit at a computer all day and write her heart out. This is the captivating second book of The Plated Prisoner Series. It’s an adult epic fantasy story blending romance, intrigue, and beautiful imagery. Return to the seductive world of magic inspired by the tale of King Midas, and get caught up in the world of Orea. The betrayers. The murderers. The ones who nearly destroyed Orea, wiping out Seventh Kingdom in the process. Rip has power sizzling beneath this skin and glinting spikes down his spine. But his eyes—his eyes are the most compelling of all. We also saw more of the Wrath in this book than in the previous one, and it was nice to see that Auren was with people who loved her and cared about her, and seeing their banter and silly rivalry added a lighter touch to the darker aspect of the book such as healing from intense trauma and physical torture. It is very difficult to give a thorough review without giving spoilers so I’m just going to leave a few vague points and quotes. There were also at least a couple of deus ex machina moments thrown in too, though more so on Slade’s side when inevitably trying to rescue Auren from all the things happening to her. SO. Read it. It’s much different than the first one, but not in a bad way. Just different. In an excellent way, tbh. I’m pleased. This story focuses less on the plot and more on Auren’s emotional and mental struggles and growth, but I still loved it so much! If you thought you loved Slade before, I will tell you now, you were wrong. You will come out of this not remembering any of your other book boyfriend’s names.
